Chinese Herbal Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Chinese herbal medicine is an wholistic approach to understanding health and focuses on treatment and prevention of illness.  Your treatment will focus on not just your current symptoms but also the underlying state of your health, your lifestyle and emotions.  Many people visit their practitioner to support their often busy and demanding lifestyles, using Chinese Medicine to support them in keeping well, not just when they are unwell.

Many health conditions have the same medical name but the symptoms can vary from one person to another.  For this reason your TCM practitioner will prescribe herbal formulas specific to you by applying TCM theory.  This can include pulse and tongue diagnosis, thorough questioning, observation and understanding your lifestyle and emotions.  The result is that health conditions that may appear similar are treated with different Chinese herbal prescriptions.

For example, three people may describe their condition as a cold.  One has a sore throat, headache and runny nose.  Another has body ache, cough and runny nose.  Another might have all of these symptoms.  Each would receive an individually formulated herbal medicine prescription.  The herbs used are very specific addressing each person's symptoms rather than the diagnosis of common cold.  The same principle applies for a wide range of health conditions, leading to restored balance, normal functioning and, importantly, the prevention of other illnesses.

At Health and Fertility Matters your practitioners use:

  • granulated or powdered herbs which are used to make individualised formulas, these dissolve in hot water
  • patent formulas in the form of pills or granulated capsules
