Deborah Cooper (ND, DipHerbMed, MATMS)
Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist

My work as a natural therapist spans 27 years and it began in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.  As a health worker in a rural commuity I worked with people of all ages with a broad variety of health concerns and this provided a solid foundation for my career in natural therapies.

It was here that my long history in the field of women's health began.  As a young mother I always had a keen interest in supporting others to ensure they had the best opportunity to experience a positive pregnancy and childbirth experience and began working as a doula in 1984.

In 1991 I moved to Sydney and initially worked at the Women's Health Advisory Centre and then as an associate at a specialist medical centre with an obstetrician and gynaecologist.  This formed a sound platform for my work in both women's and men's health.  I can assist you with all reproductive health concerns from contraception, pre-conception for men and women, fertility advice, pregnancy care, menstrual problems polycystic ovarian syndrome, PMS, period pain, managing peri-menopause and menopause.

In the mid 90's I joined the team at the Wholistic Medical Centre in Surry Hills, also known as the Randle St. Clinic.  In this environment I became part of a very focused team approach to health where I broadened my field to once again include working with people who have unusual or serious long term or life threatening health problems.  Examples being cancer support, arthiritis and pain management, mental health problems including depression and anxiety, sarcoidosis, lung problems kidney disease, auto immune disorders including alopecia, liver and digestive disorders, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, skin disorders, to name just a few.

A published author, my books include The Body Shaping Diet, co-authored with Sandra Cabot and then Women's Health in Women's hands and Your Baby, Your Way.  While clearly there has been a strong focus on women's health I do not limit my practice to that.

When you work with women it is a natural progression to also work with their children.  From newborns to adolescence, I assist with advice and support regarding breastfeeding, baby's first food, immunisation advice, fussy eating, behavioural problems, immune support, skin problems and so on.

If you are wondering if a change in your child's diet might improve their health and behaviour then I am the person to work with you, drawing on my own experience as a parent and also from many years working with families.  My main focus when working with children is on simple dietary modification to ensure the child remains well nourished and to improve health outcomes.  I understand the difficulties many parents and careres face when trying to alter a child's diet and therefore will provide practical self help ideas and solutions.  I can also guide you regarding suspected food allergy or intolerances.

A keen sportswoman and dragon boat coach, I also provide nutritional and training advice for athletes and those wanting to improve fitness and overcome fatigue.  I also manufacture organic hand made skin creams, lotions, liquid soaps and ointments.  I am a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS 0949) and registered with all private health funds.

An accredited naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist, my fundamental approach to achieving good health includes a complete health and dietary assessment and an iridology reading.
